Pokemon fire red/red extended gameplay?

is there any differences besides graphics between fire red and plain red? Is there another island you can visit after the elite four?

Well yeah, the Sevii Islands it's a group of seven islands where there are lots of stuff to do like Breeding in island 4, catching Pokemon from Johto, catching Moltres, and blasting Team Rocket off.
