Pokemon holding items?

In Pokemon emerald I want a light ball but its something like a 5%

chance of a Pikachu holding it so how do you know when a Pokemon is holding an item?

You can only find out by catching it but if you have a Pokemon with the ability Compoundeyes like Nincada in front of your party, the chances of a Pikachu holding a Light Ball is higher.

well u can use some special attacks like snatch and knock off

well hariyama knows knock off u can get it on the victory road and u get snatch tm teach that to any gohst or dark type pokemon when u use these attacks u wil come to know wat item ur foe holds
