Pokemon pearl locatioN?

i am on the part of the game where you arrive on the island where you supposedly have to battle 50 times in a row without stopping, or you cant go anywhere else. and so do u really have to battle all that without ex pts or anything or can you bybass that and/or go another way?? and if so, im assuming you would need at least a good 30 minutes?
