Pokemon ruby cartridge?

I baught a pokemon ruby cartrige that is broken i mean it works and you can play it but when i save turn it off and turn it back on the file is not there i dont care about that i just want to know if i can still put it in the gba cartridge in the ds and catch gengar in the old chatou in pokemon diamond thanks ppl

It will still work but I've never heard of that. Must be defective and wasn't properly tested. Even when the battery runs out your save is ok. That wasn't the case with the 2nd gen games. Probably why that made the save file battery independent.
