I have a few 3rd and fourth gen. holos that bear a stamp with the set name in the lower right corner of the pic. What does this mean, are they unique/rare? Just a few I have: camerupt, lucario, machop, monferno...etc.

  1. Every expansion set released is composed of a regular series plus a "reverse" or "alternate" holographic series.  Pre-Diamond and Pearl, these had holographic pictures with the series name stamped in the bottom right corner, and came one per booster pack (1 alt holo, 1 rare, 2 uncommon, 5 common).  Starting with Diamond & Pearl, the expansion set name was removed from the picture, and the entire card has a holographic "sheen" to it.  They still come 1 to a pack (1 alt holo, 1 rare, 3 uncommon, 5 common).  Diamond & Pearl cards that have the set name in the bottom right are likely part of some promotion, similar to the one currently going on with Burger King in the U.S.  Value of the alt-holo cards is similar to that of rares (being that they have the same distribution), with of course higher value being placed on cards that are considered more "playable."  Some players even prefer to have their entire decks composed of alt-holo cards, which can get pretty pricey.

  2. I don't know actually, but I have a similar Spheal EX-Legend Maker.
