My choices are $1, $5, $25, $100, $500, $1000, $5000. I didnt know if i should go with 150-$1 100-$5 75-$25 50-$100 50-$500 50-$1000 and 50-$5000 input would be great. Thanks

  1. You've got it right but alot depends on who your a playing with and what the stakes are.  You left out $10 chips which I find eases play and in my personal group we rarely play much over pot limit of $100 so the $5000's would not get much play.

  2. It depends on whether you will be playing a tournament or a cash game, and also how many players you are planning to accommodate.

A standard tournament setup usually consists of 25's 100's 500's and 1000's.  Some people prefer to use $5 chips and leave out 1000's.  The reason being that the gap between denoms should usually be 4-5x.  Also, with either setup you can also use them for cash games (5's as nickles, 25's as quarters etc.)

As for breakdown, you need to figure out your starting stack. your starting stack should generally be 100x your big blind. I like to run a T5000 tournament, with blinds starting at 25/50, $10 cash game with blinds at 5c/10c. You generally want between 10 and 20 chips of the first and second denoms, and a little less of the higher ones.  For my T5000 tourney, I use starting stacks of:

    25x12

    100x13

    500x7

This gives you lots of 100's (your workhorse chip) and also leaves your 1000's for rebuys.  so if you have 10 people just times that by 10...

    120 x 25

130x 100 (you may want extra to color off 25's)

    70 x 500

plus some 1000's for rebuys. (30)  That leaves you 100 chips to spare, so you might want to get extra just in case your game grows over time.
