  2. Showing strength means weakness, and acting weak means they are strong.  Not always accurate, but if you are playing newbies, it is a dead give away.  The best thing to do, is pay attention to the game, especially when you are not in a hand.  Some folks give away their hand by the way they bet, others talk too much.  There is no sure rule, but if you are observant and pay attention you can pick up on clues that you don't even know you are picking up on.  It has been my experience that shaking hands and nerveousness is a sign of a very strong hand, and most of the pros feel the same way.  I have seen pros vocalize that they were not calling because of the excess nervousness.

A game I play is that when I am not in the hand, I try to put everyone on a hand.  After awhile, if it is the same folks (ring game) I get very good at it. Tournaments are a little different, because as the chip stacks shrink in relationship to the blinds, folks' play tends to change dramatically as their options are slipping away.  Above all, learn the people you are playing, that is what distinguishes the good from the not so good in poker. Also create a table image that fits  your style of play.  If you make just a few people at the table afraid to play at you, your winnings increase drastically.

  3. Nervousness like hands shaking but you have to watch it because the good players will do this on purpose to make you think they got nothing.

I do know this, fast calls usually means the player is on a draw, otherwise he would of raised you.

  4. Usually i look for fidgeting and nervousness also if the player calls almost immediately that's another sign other than that there's no way of knowing.

  5. I'd recommend reading "Read 'em and Reap" featuring Phil Hellmuth and written by former FBI Agent Navarro.  It gives all kinds of insight to poker tells.

When a player doesn't like their hand, they'll instantly make some kind of soothing or adjustment movement.  For some, it's rubbing their wrists, stroking their hair, or moving back in their seat.  I know MINE tends to be pushing the bridge of my glasses if I don't catch it in time.  It's an instinctive move that most of the poker pros learn to detach themselves from.  Also look at betting patterns and the way they bet/act/handle chips.

  6. Basically, people's INITIAL reaction to their cards they can't hide. If you watch them then you'll get great insight on other tells. It really is just a fraction of a second, but it's hugely important.

People looking at their cards again, after they've seen them at the start, can be a tell for certain people. Sometimes they forget, but sometimes they're not sure if they're doing as good as they think anymore.

The basis is all about body language. Study people. Watch them play before you get in the game.

  7. Well he asked if the player was bluffing and not if he had a draw or weak hand calling. One of the bluffs from live poker that I learned from some video its the classic Chris Moneymaker bluff where he gets all stiff and stares you down. That is called weak trying to act strong. And yes Chris Moneymaker is a suckyass player who got lucky in the world series.
