Question:

Poker Tourney - Final Table Question?

So I just had a poker tourney with 18 guys, 2 tables to start. When we got down to 9 (5 on one table, 4 on the other), we went to 1 table. The 4 guys moved to the table with the 9. I always thought you re-draw for seats to make it fair. A couple of the guys said that the table with the 5 guys seated already, stay in their seats, while the 4 guys draw for the open seats. But, then one of the guys had to be big blind twice which didn't seam fair. Should we have re-drawn for seats or just re-drawn for the button/dealer? Gotta make sure it's right for next time.

  1. The guys who run the regular tourney I play redraw for ALL seats, not just for the players moving to the new table.

  2. Online what's done is that the table with the most players get to keep their seats and the empty ones are filled randomly by the players from the smaller table.  You can also draw for all the seats if you like.  The important thing here is to have the rule in place and known before you start the tourney.

  3. In a two table tournament like this one, once there are nine players left and you consolidate to the final table the most proper thing to do is force everyone to draw for seat position.  If it is left to the players to decide, a savvy player can deliberately sit at a table with an aggressive player on his right and a passive player on his left, which could be advantageous.

Once everyone is seated (regardless of how you did that), you should draw for the button.

Chance is such that it is possible that someone could end up being in the big blind twice at this point.  But if you drew for seat position and button position, and someone ends up in the blinds twice as a result, that's just bad luck for them.

  4. I would re draw the seats when that many people come in to a table.
