  1. are you just learning poker?  if so you need to learn the very basics of what to do. Once you have figured that out then you can start with the books.  If yo dont want to buy the books look around online and alot of what the books say gets said online but really the books are a great investment.  They really pay off.

check out this very basic guide, its pretty much the basis of poker strategy.  http://poker.theinformationexperts.com/?...

and to the guy who said you will lose, that is not true.  Poker is the only casino game that you can beat because your not beating the house your beating the other players.

Good luck its going to take alot of practice but it will be worth it

  2. Yoiu will statistically lose money at internet poker.

    Don't play expecting to win.

  3. They are helpful in giving you a greater understanding of all things poker but they are not a template of the exact way you should play.  Read, learn, play and develop your own style.

I think if you are going to invest money on internet poker that the purchase of a book will make your money go further.  Brunson's Super System 2 is very highly regarded and authored by top professionals.  Good luck on the tables.

  4. it depends on who you are if your someone who just has a knack for the game ignore them doyle brunson ignores them me i read them and theyve helped my game but what helps your game the most is just experience and after every session give thought to what you did right what you did wrong and how you can improve for no limit holdem cash games i reccomend sklanksy proffessional no limit holdem book for NLHE tournys i reccomend harrington on holdem volume one and two i disagree with three and there reccomendations good luck

  5. Most of the people who lose money playing poker, on the internet or live, are the people who decided they were going to learn to play by not reading anything at all and just learning through experience.

If you don't have a good foundation -- that is know what hands to play and when, knowing how to raise and when, knowing how to put people on hands, etc -- you're not going to be good anytime soon. The best place to find this information is in books by great players.

BTW, most pro players have read almost EVERY book on the market, especially since many were written by their direct competition. That should tell you something.

  6. it depends because its very difficult to have a chance to think abt hte mathematical possibilities when ure in the heat of a game

if u want to learn go to pokerstars and use the playmoney - u dont spend nething and its a good guide to get going

  7. Try poker for dummies.  Yes, it will help your game to read, study, and act on any subject.  Go to the library and borrow books if you do not have any money.
