  1. whether you should fold on your first 2 cards depends on how many people you are playing against and how many people bet before you. Also, consider whether they are "suited" which makes a flush a possibility.

It is usually worth staying in for the flop, unless a lot of others have bet before you or you really have low cards. Even with a low pair or one jack or a queen, I might fold if there are lots of players, because someone will end up with a good hand.

You can only check if nobody before you has raised. It means you don't fold or raise, but you can stay in because nobody else bet.

You have to use what you learn about your opponents to get them to bet the most possible when you have a high hand. If you know you have a winning hand, you may need to bluff to make the other player feel cocky and bet more. Or...if they are likely to think you are bluffing and have a lot more chips than you, you could go all in and they will probably call.

  2. You only fold when the potential return on a pot is insufficient for the investment needed. There is a strength to NOT having a set of rules as to when to fold, or hold. I myself would rather a low suited connector rather than a higher mixed. I would suggest going to library and picking up a book. As you progress the cards you have are less important than your peole skills.
