Poland and Turkey look strong in Pool A - 2011 FIVB Girls’ Youth World Championship
The action-packed volleyball campaign called the 2011 FIVB Girls’ Youth World Championship is starting on Friday, August 12 in Ankara, Turkey. Teams from sixteen countries are set to start the fight for volleyball supremacy. In the first round of the tournament,
four pools have been designed which have four teams apiece. Brazil is defending the title this year, while Serbia and Belgium enter the competition as 2nd and 3rd place finishers of the last edition of the FIVB Youth World Championship.
Let’s have a look at the opening-day fixtures in Pool A.
Poland vs. Egypt
The two top teams of the Europe and Africa will be featured in the first match of 2011 FIVB Youth World Championship. The contest between Poland and Egypt is scheduled to get started at mid-day. Poland is coming back to the competition after a long break
of seven years. The Polish team last competed at FIVB Youth World Championship in 2003 and finished in 8th position. They could not qualify for the next three editions of the tournament but finally earned qualification this year. On the other hand,
Egypt participated and finished 15th in 2009. It was not a great performance by Egyptian team but they have great opportunity to shake off the bad impression now.
Turkey vs. Algeria
The second match in Pool A will bring host team Turkey up against Algeria. This is one of the matches which is likely to attract scores of fans. Turks will have the advantage of the great support of a home crowd and they are tipped to win the match. The
Algerian team is strongly tagged as an underdog team and it will have the great challenge to overcome Turkey on their home soil.
