Poland defeats Serbia by 3-2 in Pool H of FIVB Volleyball Women’s Junior World Championship
A Pool H match of the second round of the FIVB Volleyball Women’s Junior World Championship took place in Trujillo, Peru on Tuesday, 26th July. The two teams that were up against each other were the Serbians and the Polish squad. The match went on for five long and grueling sets at the end of which the Polish side proved to be the better of the two and sealed a 3-2 win.
The first set of the match was competitive with the Serbians losing steam in the second. However, after bagging the first two sets of the game, the Polish lost the third and the fourth one to the Polish team as they put on an impressive show to equalise the match. The fifth set started with a lot of excitement at the end of which the Polish squad prevailed by winning the match at the following final set scores: 25-21, 25-17, 14-25, 18-25 and 15-11.
Poland’s head Coach, Kosatka Grzegorz, made the following comments at the press conference that was held after the match: “I’m not happy with the fact that our players lost track, fortunately we won this match, but in the previous 3 ones we lost, we won’t allow ourselves to lose like that anymore. This match was reinforcement for us to battle against Egypt and Russia in the future”
On the other hand, the Serbian head coach, Ratko Pavlicevic, expressed himself in the following words: “We lost focus in the first two sets, we tried but it wasn’t enough to win, Poland is a great team, congratulations to them. We expect to win the next two games in this group to go back to our home with our head up.”
In the initial set, the Polish side got the lead at 4-1 but the Serbians were able to tie the score at 4-4. Both teams stayed neck to neck during the entire first set. However, it was the Polish side that was able to win it at 25-21.
Building on the momentum generated by winning the first set, the Polish side was able to come out strong in the second set as well. Poland got themselves the lead and kept the Serbians on the chase all through and nailed it 25-17.
The loss of the first two sets of the game sent a wakeup call to the Serbians who changed the flow of the game by dominating the third set and finally bagging it at 25-14. Similarly, the Serbians did not let go of the fourth set and equalised the match by winning it at 25-18.
The fifth set saw the Polish side take the lead at 6-0. After that point, the Polish team never looked back until they had won the fifth set at 15-11.
With their recent win, Poland has managed to improve their record to show one win with three defeats so far in the tournament, while the Serbians also show the same statistic despite losing the match.
