Poland emerges as the top team in Pool A – 2012 CEV Women’s Junior Volleyball Championship
Women’s junior national team of Poland completed a wonderful five-match winning streak at the end of 2nd round of the 2012 CEV Women’s Junior Volleyball Championship in Belarus on Sunday.
Polish ladies were joined by teams from Latvia, host Belarus, France, Germany, and Lithuania in Pool A of the tournament. The Poles staged spectacular action of volleyball and did not allow anyone to hinder their performance.
On the final day of the 2nd round, Polish squad crossed its ways with Latvia. The opposite team failed to stay in front of the Polish hitters and dropped the decision in straight sets of 11-25, 19-25, and 17-25.
At the end of round 2, Latvia remained without any win whereas Poland remained without any loss. The Olimpiets sports hall in Mogilev, Belarus hosted the match, while large number of volleyball ball enthusiasts watched the volleyball action.
As expected, the top gun of Poland Iga CHOJNACKA settled for the top-scorer’s position in the match. She made successful attack attempts and contributed match-high 14 points in Poland’s score. The most number of points that she scored was on spikes. She
totalled 13 winning spikes in addition to one block in the match.
Latvian Alise Lece put up great struggled for her team. However, it proved to another failing effort for her as Latvia could not achieve success in the match. She added team-high 11 points and became the only player with double-figure score on Latvian side
in the match.
Success in the final match came as no big surprise for the volleyball fans as Latvia was hardly a match for powerful Polish team. Poland easily sailed through to 3-0 victory.
Nonetheless, Poles had a really tough time to overcome German counterparts in their previous match on Saturday. The two top teams of the tournament came into stride and staged a five-set thriller. It was a point-to-point battle as both teams played quite
consistently and game score tied after four sets.
Poland broke the deadlock of 2-2 in fifth decisive set and managed to earn winning status in the match, which helped Poland to advance to the next round of the tournament. Hence, Poland secured a spot in the final round of the championship on Saturday with
one match remaining on its schedule.
Earlier on Poland defeated Lithuania on day-3 of the tournament. It was just an easy game for Polish ladies. The underdog Lithuania remained irresistible in the match and accepted defeat in straight sets.
Poland also defeated host Belarus in second match of the 2nd round. Despite having the advantage of familiar conditions and emotional support of fans, the home team could not stop Poland from claiming 3-0 win.
Moreover, French team suffered the loss of its opening match from Poland on day-1. Overall, Poland displayed an incredible effort and deserved to be the pool topper.
