Poland holds Germany for 3-1 victory at the Memorial Hubert Jerzy Wagner – Volleyball News
Poland men’s volleyball team pulled off success against Germany in a Memorial Hubert Jerzy Wagner match on Saturday.
The city of Zielona Gora, Poland created the backdrop for this interesting encounter, which ended with the following result: 3-1 (36-34, 25-23, 17-25, and 25-21). Poles took full advantage of the familiar conditions and the emotional support of local fans,
in order to clinch success in the match. Visiting German squad could only secure one frame in the four-set affair and dropped the decision.
Poland’s Bartosz Kurek emerged as the most effective player in the match as he played an instrumental role in his team’s victory. On the other hand, Gyorgy Grozer put up a huge struggle to bring Germany on top. However, it proved to be failing effort for
him as the team dropped the final decision.
The match was opened with a balanced action from both sides. The hosts played to their full potential and added a flurry of points. However, the Germans responded well and did not allow the Poles to stretch the gap of points. Both teams regularly traded
lead and staged a see-saw battle. Eventually, Poland managed to close the first set with two-point advantage (36-34) and went on front, 1-0.
Poles continued with success and extended their lead to 2-0 by winning the second set with similar two-point lead. The second set ended with the final score of 25-23.
Raged-up German team brought more ferocity in attack during the third set and managed to seize first set-win in the match. The visitors sent 25-17 on board to claim third set. The hosts bounced back in fourth set and crushed the opponent by posting 25-21.
Poland settled for 3-1 victory in the match and created a chance of celebration for home audience.
Germany’s team captain Björn Andrae shared his thoughts after the match. He said: “I just love playing in Poland as the fans always create an amazing atmosphere in the stands” “They are in a great shape and well ready for the Olympics. We also played pretty
good but some errors in the last phases of the sets were crucial in determining our defeat”.
The captain of the Polish team Marcin Mozdzonek was happy about the win of his team. He said: “We made quite many unforced errors but it is good that we fought back because this is a situation we may be confronted with at the Olympics. Germany played a good
game, especially with Grozer, but we finally won”.
Elsewhere, teams from Argentina and Iran contested their skills in a five set thriller. The South American hotshots sent the Asian tigers to a loss by posting 3-2 (25-16, 18-25, 25-22, 20-25, and 17-15) on board.
