Poland sets higher aims after claiming final round berth – Volleyball news
Men’s national volleyball team of Poland secured a trip to Sofia, Bulgaria after beating archrival Brazil in the last match of first round of the 2012 FIVB World League on Sunday, June 17.
Poles proved to be better in the four-set match and clinched success by sending 25-22, 25-23, 21-25, and 25-22 on board. The Ice Arena in Tampere, Finland provided the backdrop for the thrilling encounter. Success enabled Poland to join Bulgaria in the final
round of the tournament and now the Poles have great many expectations to fulfil their dreams of holding the title trophy.
The head coach of the Polish squad Andrea Anastasi successfully led his team to the influential round. Next up, he has only one thing on mind and that is to put body, mind, and soul for the final victory.
Speaking of the match against Brazil, he stated, “We are now qualified to the Finals and it's most important for us that we go to Sofia. It's difficult to say what made the difference. If we played another match, it could be different. Kurek is a good player
and he can be one of the best in the world some day if he trains hard.”
On the other hand, Brazil had a great urge to claw its way to the final round through the preliminaries. However, they failed to overcome the Poles and dropped the first chance to make it to the final round. In the next run, the Brazilians will have to wait
until the rest of the teams in the tournament get done with the opening round matches. Brazil will only stand a chance to qualify for the final round if it becomes the second best team in the Pools.
In this regards, Brazil’s head coach Bernardo Rezende said, “We still have a chance to get to the Finals as the best second placed in the pools, but we don't think it now. We start to train for the Olympics. Poland's number six (Bartosz Kurek) played a great
match, but the whole Polish team played well. Poland deserved to win.”
The two teams came into stride on Sunday and showcased their skills in front of some 2,970 spectators. The opening set of the match featured a balanced action from both sides. Poland used the top gun Bartosz Kurek to put pressure on the rivals, while Brazil
relied on Leandro Vissotto. After a close competition, Poland managed to claim the opening set with three points (25-22).
Second set unfolded the similar story, where Poland downed Brazil with a narrow margin of two points (25-23). Brazil managed to prove its endeavours in third set and posted 25-21 before Poland gave the final shot in fourth set. Poles secured fourth set at
25-22 and settled for match victory.
