Poland sweeps Egypt in third round of 2011 FIVB Men's World Cup - Volleyball
The third day of the third round of the 2011 FIVB Men's World Cup saw the Polish squad compete against the Egyptians on November 29 in the Japanese city of Fukuoko. Japan is playing host to the championship after having successfully staged the 2011 FIVB
Women's World Cup recently. Marine Messe was the back drop to the fixture in which the Polish squad overcame the Egyptians by 3-0.
Despite the fact that the Egyptians lost the match in three back to back sets, they did not go down without putting up a good fight. The first set of the match started off with both teams on level ground but as the frame drew to its final stages, the Polish
were able to propel themselves forwards in order to secure the opening set of the game. The loss of the first set made the Egyptians step up their game and they were able to give quite a challenge to the Polish in the second set. Both the teams stayed neck
to neck for the entire length of the frame but the Polish finally bagged another win.
The Egyptians did not give up in the third set either and fought hard until the end but it was the Polish side that was able to win the set and seal the deal on the match at the following final set scores: 25-21, 26-24 and 25-21.
The coach of the Polish squad, Andrea Anastasi, expressed himself in the following manner at the press conference that was held after his team had won the game: "We stayed focused in the tough moments and closed it out for the three points. Now it's on to
Tokyo and do our best there.”
The coach of the Egyptian team, Sherif El-Shemerly, explained his feelings in this way: "(Andrea) Anastasi has made the difference for the Poland team. They are back at a high level. He can direct them to the target and teach the players how to love each
other.”
