Poland sweeps Puerto Rico in FIVB World League fixture – Volleyball update
The Federation Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB) World League on Saturday, June25, in Plock saw a league match take place between Poland and Puerto Rico. Poland walked away the victor after a clean sweep of their rivals.
Poland did not give the Puerto Ricans much chance to build their momentum as each of the three sets were dominated by the winning team. By the time that the Polish were done, the final set scores stood at: 25-19, 25-22 and 25-20.
The first set of the match saw Poland take and keep early control of the proceedings. Puerto Rico seemed unable to put up much of a fight as Poland bagged the opening set, 25-19. Puerto Rico managed to come alive in the second set of the game as they kept
Poland on their toes. However, this did not prove to be enough as the Polish team was able to secure the second set as well. With the loss of the first two sets of the game, the visitors were hard put to make a win in the third and they did make an effort
to come off as the better side but Poland duly quashed any hope the Puerto Ricans might have had to make a win.
The Puerto Rican Hector Soto was able to register the highest number of points in both teams by adding 17 to his sides score board. While Piotr Nowakowski was able lead the Polish team by delivering 10 points. However, it was Nowakowski who earned himself
the honour of being named the Most Valuable Player in the contest.
The opening set of the match saw both the Polish and the Puerto Ricans lock horns in the beginning but Poland was eventually able to push the Puerto Ricans back by taking the lead for themselves. The Polish were only able to extend their advantage after
the two teams came back from the first time out. After that point, the Puerto Ricans could not keep up with the pace of their rivals and effectively ended up losing the initial set of the game at 25-19.
The Puerto Ricans came out in the second set of the game with renewed energy and forced the Polish coach to make some substitutions. It did not have any immediate effect as Puerto Rico still had the lead. However, an ace from Michal Bakiewicz played a key
role in turning things around for Poland and they ended up bagging the second set as well.
Poland did not let dominance slip out of their hands in the third set and sealed the deal by winning at 25-20.
With their recent win, the Polish team has now secured itself the second place in Pool A.
