Poland sweeps U.S in 2011 FIVB Men's World Cup match - Volleyball news
The Polish national men’s volleyball team played against United States today in the third round of the 2011 FIVB Men's World Cup. The championship is currently being held in Fukuoka, Japan, at the Marine Messe. The Polish were able to make a clean sweep
over the Americans rather quickly to settle for 3-0.
Not only did the Polish manage earn themselves a win by bagging three consecutive sets, they did so in a dominating fashion as the Americans were not able to provide their opponents with the required amount of challenge. The first set of the match saw the
Polish take the lead early on. Once they had the lead, the Polish did not let go of the advantage and were able to speed on ahead to bag the opening set win.
The loss of the first set got the Americans to step up their performance in the second set but they could not provide the Polish with a significant challenge and near the end of the frame the Poland squad was able to push themselves forwards to get a 2-0
advantage in the game. The loss of the first two sets got the United States morale down and they put in a half-hearted effort in the third set which made it easier for the Polish to earn themselves the third consecutive win and the match as a consequence at
the following final set scores: 25-15, 25-20 and 25-18.
The coach of the Polish team, Andrea Anastasi, expressed himself in the following manner at the press conference after his team had won the match: "I'm very happy we got another three points. We played a good match. We started well and played that way until
the end. I am proud to be the coach of this team.”
On the other hand, the American coach, Alan Knipe, explained his feelings by making these comments: "Many times volleyball is a complex game. It can also be a simple game. They were better than us in the passing and serving game. We didn't have any rhythm
today. They kept the pressure on us from start to finish. We must look at the video and learn from this. I'm disappointed.”
