Poland’s Piotr Myszka holds on to overall lead at RS:X Youth European Windsurfing Championships
Poland’s Piotr Myszka maintained his overall lead at the 2011 RS:X Youth European Windsurfing Championships at the end of Day 5, at Burgas, Bulgaria. The fleet for the final Medal Race were decided after the day’s races. Myszka had a strong lead of 24 points
over the second placed, Byron Kokkalanis, and is likely to claim the title.
The Men’s fleet of RS:X Youth European set sail on the fifth day under lighter wind conditions over the race course. Unlike the predicted breeze forecast of 15 to 20 knots, the morning began with cloudy weather and eight to ten knots of wind speed with the
track forward in downwind.
The Polish sailor has made it to the Medal Race already with a 24-point lead over the fleet’s second placed Greek. The Polish had a superb sail winning the second and last race of the day. However, in the first race, Piotr could not maintain his streak and
tumbled down at number eight spot.
Although Kokkalanis is on second position, he can be challenged by Israel’s Shahar Zubari, who is just four points behind him at 39 while Spain’s Ivan Pastor Lafuente will have to perform well to disturb the top places.
The overall standings of RS:X European Men at the end of Day 5 are given below:
