Poland’s progress at the 2012 CEV Beach Volleyball Satellite Aalsmeer
Poland sent two teams in the Main Draw of 2012 CEV Beach Volleyball Satellite Tournament, which is taking place from January 11 to 15.
The Indoor sports arena in Aalsmeer, Netherlands is hosting the enthralling beach volleyball action of men’s teams. In the first round of the Main Draw on Friday, January 13, Poland’s Kantor/ Kosiak and Kadziola/Szalankiewicz emerged as successful teams
in their respective matches.
The pairing of Kantor and Kosiak went against German Klemperer/ Koreng and posted 2-0 (21-16, 21-15) victory in the opening fixture.
The match lasted for 32 minutes and it proved to be an easy task for the Poles to overcome German counterparts. With impressive digging and diving on the sand, Polish team controlled the game and remained ahead of the competitors. The Germans, on the other
hand, attempted less attacks and suffered the set-back on account of too many mistakes. Eventually, they dropped the decision in Poland’s favour.
Following the footsteps of their country mates, the tandem of Kadziola-Szalankiewicz faced off the German duo of Kaczmarek-Walkenhorst in the next match. The German team was seeded number 7 in the tournament but lost the volleyball battle to 10th-seeded
Polish pairing of Kadziola-Szalankiewicz, who seized first-set win by sending 21-17 on board and stayed on the winning course in second set as well.
Keeping the same momentum, they claimed second frame with the final score of 21-13 and announced match victory. Poles took only 39 minutes to dismantle the power of German opponents. Hence, both teams from Poland dug up success in the first round matches
of the Main Draw on Friday.
The winning pair of Kantor-Kosiak returned to action in their action match against Turkey’s Sekerci-Gögtepe. Turks had higher ranking and tried to take its advantage. However, the Polish duo remained remarkably consistent and did not allow the opposite side
to launch its authority on them. They grabbed success in the first set after a tough competition. Turks dropped the decision with a slight two-point decision at 21-23.
Nonetheless, the success in first frame boosted the morale of Poles and they stormed Turkish half with a flurry of shots. They picked up an early lead and finished the second set with 21-13 victory. The match was played for about 37 minutes and final success
graced the Polish side.
Kadziola-Szalankiewicz of Poland clashed with Swiss team in the second round of Main Draw at the 2012 CEV Beach Volleyball Satellite Tournament. The second-seeded Swiss pair proved to be a detractor for the Polish team and sent them to their first loss of
the day. Switzerland’s Heuscher-Bellaguarda influenced the Polish duo with quality in attacks and defence. They secured first frame at 21-19 and captured second set 21-18. Therefore, Poland finished the day with an overall record of 3-1.
