Polar bears are highly adaptable and can swim?

Where the h**l did people get the idea that polar bears will die if it gets warmer? They have survived many times in history when it has been much warmer then it was today.

It is there habitat!!

1. The North Pole is ice!  If it melts, where will they go?  There is no land there like in the Antarctic! True, some live in the northern landmasses, but there isn't enough room/food for them. Plus, MAN is now intruding in those parts.

2. Other animals have already filled the other niches in the world.

3. The Polar Bears are built for a blubber/fat rich diet.  A diet the will usually only get in cold climates.

(Where do you get those figures?  And who cares if it take hundreds of years??  Adaptation takes thousands of years for animals, usually much longer than that!)

(EVOLUTION??  Has anyone here ever even read a book about it?  Evolution doesn't happen in 200 years people!)

How about thinking about something before asking?  The question is uneducated and ridiculously insulting to life itself.

I hope this question was just a flame, because there are people out there that think like that, and it makes me sad to think that they are allowed to vote and have children.

Polar bears rely on sea ice to hunt.  If they can't hunt, they obviously can't survive.  Studies have shown that female polar bears in Canada are already declining in weight to a point where they can't give birth to viable cubs.

I am with you on this one. The current polar bear population is at its highest level in years, and unless the entire northern ice pack disappears over the course of a single summer (something that will NOT happen), I think they can gradually adapt to the changes. I personally do not think we will see Polar Bears go extinct within our lifetimes.

the polar ice caps are melting at a surprising rate now and polar bears are dying now. they can swim but not for hundreds of miles. just like humans. what happens is medium sized pieces of ice break off while the polar bear is on them and float away, for hundreds of miles into the ocean. then they melt and the polar bear has to try to swim, but doesn't know which way to go and has to travel a really long way so they die.

The ice caps melting is a gradual process. The polar bears will simply migrate and adapt.

They can swim, but they can't hunt while swimming.  So they starve, and, if they're a mother with cubs, the cubs starve too.  This is MUCH uglier than people think.

The US Fish and Wildlife Service says they're now endangered because of man made global warming.  You'll forgive me if I accept their word over yours?

Sure they can swim, but what good does that do them?   2 of them so far in the last couple weeks have swum 200 miles from Greenland to Iceland, only to be shot when they arrive there.    Immigrants not welcome!

Global warming is just nothing but scare tactics.  It will bring us more taxes and shut down industry.  Al Gore wants a Carbon tax. VERY scary
