You can make polaroid sunglasses by holding two polarizing disks up to your eyes. Where would the positions of the transmission axis be: verticial or horizontal? Why? Also, explain whether the two disks held in the same position you just determined will continue to block out glare (reflections) if you lay on your side, at the beach for example. Explain why.

  1. Glare reduction depends upon the reflecting surface and the orientation of the pola filter. If they are at right angles, glare is reduced because reflected light is partially polarized.
