Pole Vaulting Question?

In pole vaulting, what is the vault box, where is it & why is it there? ASAP please I'm doing pole vaulting as my olympic project subject ;]

The vault box? I've never heard that term when referring to pole vault...are you talking about the gymnastic sport of vaulting?...well..we call that the pit...but read the second comment, that would be correct

There's a little metal box that slopes downwards at the end of the running track.  The athlete sticks the end of the pole in the box, it gets stopped at the end and flings the athlete up.
