Question:

Police HELP?!?

Recently I was at a party that was busted due to underage drinking, drugs etc. The police ordered everyone out on the streets and home which we all did. However, I was still without my shoes so I waited around hoping to get them back. The police officer continued to yell telling me to shut up and go home. However, I am well old enough (18) to be out until any time of night wherever I want. The police has no power to send me home if I am simply standing on a public street minding my own business waiting. He decides to throw me in his cruiser and scream at me until finally giving me a $180 ticket for disobeying the police. Is he right to do this? What I was doing (not listening) was unjust surely and I know I was pushing his patience. However, I was in no way breaking any law. My (mandatory) court date is coming up. Is it worth trying to fight it? I simply believe he was trying to prove a point and show his overated authority and in doing so gave me a bull ticket... Any suggestions

  1. if it was me i would fight it, what have you got to lose?

  2. actually he could have busted you for a lot more

I don't see how he has overrated authority either.

How about obeying the law and being a good person for a change?

  3. Go ahead and fight it.  The judge will either dismiss it, or lecture you for a bit and give you a fine.

  4. You will loose. In today's world, the courts have little patience for underage drinking and so on. What you did was failure to obey a police officer. By the letter of the law, that was what you did. The police were dispersing a crowd. You were not obeying the orders so you got charged.

  5. well of course fight, always fight

  6. When a police officer tells you to leave, that is a lawful order and when you refuse you are subject to arrest. You may be 18 however you have a lot to learn. Go to court and the judge will fine you if you go in there like you did nothing wrong. Admit your mistake and plead for mercy.
