Hi I'm in high school right now and i want to be a police negotiator when I'm older.. I am thinking of getting a bachelors in psychology and then joining the police academy. I know that you have to be a police officer first before being a negotiator. But what do you have to do while being a officer to be a negotiator?

Thank You for your time and answers.

  1. You might want to investigate what programs are available for putting you closer to being a police negotiator.  there are some programs in universities and such that enable you to be trained as a police officer or other type of police profession, do some google or yahoo searches or something.

  2. I don't know about other jurisdictions but in QLD Australia it is a highly sought after position. The degree in psych would certainly help as would plenty of 'life experience'. But you are quite correct you will need to be a genral duties officer bfore being selected for the negotiators course.
