Police Question: Natural Disasters And How To Prepare?

Now that it looks like Hurricane Gustav, which is currently at a category 4 status, is moving towards the United States, how do the police and other first responders prepare for such events such as hurricanes, tornadoes, snowstorms, etc.? And how are they able to do their jobs on patrol when they know their families are being affected by the storms also?

Are the police and other first responders in the Gulf currently taking stock of rescue equipment and reviewing rescue techniques for what may be a disaster in the next few days? Will more personnel be on call? And what else are they doing to prepare?

  1. in hurricanes, the national guard takes over the relief effort. The cops still work, but they just push through it. The personel there  in New Orlearns learned alot from Katrina, so they will probably use that to help them out. The national guard is going down there to help out. They are evacuating people now, like in the most affected regions.
