Police and teachers wages in the uk?

Ive been looking into starting salaries into police and teachers wages and it doesnt seem right at all. I live in canada so maybe i am out of line, but the salaries seem rediculous how can an officer surive on 19000 or a teacher on a little bit more. Will these trends continue or will there be raises in the future and not just for these occupations. I live in toronto which isnt the cheapest but police and teachers start of quite low but its a decent wage for a young person to live nicely on. By nicely they could have a nice condo, a new leased car and go out every weekend.

At least in canada these are not easy jobs to get in fact most ppl with degrees try to become teachers so the competition is rediculous.

I think the police and teachers don't get paid enough. Although being a police officer is different compared to many jobs because of the risks involved in the profession and the pay doesn't match. I also think nurses are hugely under payed, they have to go to university for three or four years and then start a very demanding career with relatively low pay.

I don't necessary think teachers should get more pay than social workers. I am not saying being a teacher is easy but social workers have a very tough job, often working with individuals who are socially excluded. For example, young offenders, drug and alcohol abusers and individuals with learning disabilities. I think both professions are very demanding in there own way.

I don't know exactly in either case, the one thing I am sure of is that it will be a lot more than they deserve !

they get paid more than most in the uk, & they also get subsidised housing costs.

they aint that poor.

a friend of mine was a construction worker working all hours of the day in all weathers. he traded it in for a job teaching his skill, works half the hours does less physical work, & gets paid double.
