Police decide not to bring charges against Chicago Bears WR Brandon Marshall - NFL News
New York Police Department (NYPD) on Thursday decided not to bring forward any charges against Chicago Bears wide receiver, Brandon Marshall who had allegedly punched a woman outside a nightclub just a few days before his unveiling at the Bears in March.
The woman Christin Myles had lodged a complaint with the police where she claimed that the wide receiver had hit her on the face following a fracas outside a New York nightclub.
Police investigators though have found little evidence in their investigation and have now decided against charging Marshall.
Marshall’s attorney, Harvey Steinberg told the Associated Press that the decision proves that his client was innocent and was falsely accused.
"Brandon was the victim here and never did anything wrong. This confirms that."
Even though the Police are not bringing charges against the wide receiver they are still investigating the matter.
Marshall denies being involved in a fight at the club and punching Myles in the face. The wide receiver contends that he was trying to leave the club after a fracas broke out and his wife was hit by a bottle after escaping from the melee.
In an earlier radio interview with ESPN, Marshall remained confident of having the charges against him dropped.
"My wife was the victim in this situation."
He also said.
"The situation in New York, it's unfortunate. You never want to see anyone get hurt, but just the allegation of me balling my fist up and hitting a woman is just a lie. When the judicial system takes its course I'm very confident I will be cleared of any
wrongdoing.”
Marshall has a long history of run-ins with the law.
The wide receiver’s arrival at Chicago was hailed by the fans as they finally got their wish of a marquee signing to shore up the team’s offence.
Marshall has been voted to the Pro-Bowl thrice in his career and was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) in this year’s game.
The wide receiver, will reunite with his friend and quarterback, Jay Cutler in the new season and Bears fans expect a lot of great things from their two biggest stars.
