  1. If you want to move up in ranks while on a police force then you need the education to back you up......Education is the key to sucess and wealth!

(after college, your plans are going to change...becoming a cop is going to be a thing of the past. Your goals are going to bump up)

  2. Join a police explorer post in your area. Then you can start training and decide whether it is really something you want to do. I would suggest a 4 year degree, military, or both with ROTC. Stay out of trouble and get in shape, the better in shape you are the more it will help you.

  3. 4 years in college as a major in criminal justice as a major and psychology a sa minoer would be great

  4. Most police departments do not require a 4 year degree, but there are usually wage incentives if you have one (for example you can promote faster).  You definitely need to be in good physical shape as the police academies are very physically demanding.  Yes, it's hard to get hired, especially by some police departments that have huge hiring lists because they make good money or are really technologically advanced.  You also have to be willing to study and learn and be obedient.  They work you hard in the academy because what you are learning is so serious and there's so much liability.  It's no joke!  Good luck!  It's a very rewarding career.

  5. You can stop smoking and selling marijuana.  Right now.

    Seriously.

Other than that, getting a degree or military experience will certainly help.

Remember that getting hired into Law Enforcement is a competitive process.  That means that meeting the minimum requirements isn't good enough to get the job most of the time.  You have to be better than the other people applying for the same spot.  Minor things can make a big difference here.
