Police issued with mops and buckets?

Devon and Cornwall Police have been issued with mops and buckets to allow yobs to clean up the mess they make in the streets due to drink etc. They are being given this option in preference to a fixed panalty notice. Do you think it is a good idea, or a publicity stunt by the Chief Constable.

  1. Its clearly a publicity stunt.

I don't particularly think the police carrying mops and buckets around is a great idea. I do think making people clean up their mess is far more humiliating for them than a fixed penalty ticket. Half probably wouldn't pay and the other half would pay it at a rate of a £1 per week.

  2. Publicity definitely.

But also good publicity because others who see this know they could be next.

    Pavlovian Theory of  "instinctive response".

  3. A stunt.

  4. I can believe EVERYTHING that you say on this subject! I would imagine that you could have a "reign of terror ",with a balloon on a stick in Devon or Cornwall!

  5. From a US perspective, I would say it sounds like a publicity stunt for the department/chief. Having a drunkard attempting to clean up their "waste" from one to many drinks would probably end up having them make more waste or the mess larger than before!

  6. Definitely a publicity stunt.

Would love to see them in action though!

  7. Stunt! But should Labout politicians be issued with mop and bucket to clean up the mess they have caused by their policies!

  8. I think its a great idea and have seen it used elsewhere.

I once watched a bloke being made to wipe up his own urine and all his mates were filming it on their mobiles as he did.  I think the humiliation and 'ribbing' from his mates would have had far more effect thatn an £80 fine.

  9. yes that could be a laugh put the bucket over their heads and the mop handle where the Sun don't shine and watch them jump
