Police press domestic violence charges against Yuriokis Gamboa Toledano in Miami
The Cuban undefeated professional boxer, Yuriokis Gamboa Toledano was arrested in Miami by the Miami-Dade Police on charges of domestic violence. The 29-year-old Toledano, was caught around 5 a.m on Thursday.
Police claimed that some scratches and bruises were found on the arms and neck of his wife, Denia Francisco; a proof of his violence. The Cuban national paid the amount of $1,500 on the spot to avoid imprisonment.
According to police, it all started with an argument between the couple when Toledano's wife, Denia Francisco, accused the boxer of cheating on her. However, the heated argument got a little violent and turned more into a physical confrontation. Gamboa revealed
to the policeman that he grabbed his wife by the neck as she was leaving the house with their son without his permission.
“What happened is a personal matter,” said Gamboa’s attorney Tony Gonzalez. “There were no hits.”
Gamboa has been tipped as one of the best featherweight fighters of all time. The boxer won his first gold medal in the 2003 Pan American Games. The 29-year-old followed that up by another gold medal at the 2004 Summer Olympics.
During his training session, Gamboa defected to Colombia, and then to Germany in 2006. He then filed an application for a visa to enter the United States and currently resides in Miami.
Gamboa has been the rocking star of Miami since his fight against Adailton De Jesus at the famous Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino near Hollywood on the 30th of October, 2007.
“We are sure that this incident will not affect the career of a boxer like him,” said Gonzalez. “It will make him stronger and turn him into a better person.”
The World Boxing Association (WBA) and Vacant International Boxing Federation (IBF) titlist, Gamboa won his last title by scoring a technical knockout against Jorge Solis on 26th March, 2011. The fight took place at Boardwalk Hall, Atlantic City,
New Jersey, USA.
Gamboa won 20 out of 20 fights in total including 16 wins by scoring knockout decision without any lose and draw to his professional career. But hopefully, he will be alright to get rid of this situation soon and that is not going to affect his boxing career.
