Police question?

I am a A/C technician with 30 credit Hours from a community college and would like to become a sheriff in the Harris County in Houston Texas. The hour credits needed to become a sheriff are 30 hours of credits...would I be able to becomeone even if the credits are for A/C?

credits are credits.. dont matter what field you got them in. you should be okay.

I think you need to be more concerned about your English skills than your college credits.  Also, most credit hour requirements can only be satisfied by hours from a REGIONALLY ACCREDITED school.  Many Vo-Tech's don't count.  If you really want to stand out as an applicant, you should put yourself through a state approved POST academy.  Not all states allow private academies, but Texas does.  Many of the Jr. Colleges in the state have academy programs.  If you speak Spanish, you should contact the El Paso Police Dept.  That's a pretty easy dept to get into if you are bilingual.

Of course!  Those credits you have taken should account for a lot of accrued hours.  Don't forget, community colleges actually give "life" credits just for being at a job and having some common sense.  You'll probably end up having to take

18 to 20 credits to finish.  GO FOR IT!!

I think you actually want to be a Sheriff's Deputy. The position of Sheriff is generally an elected position. Call the department to see what the specific qualifications are.

You would need to contact the police agency in Harris County and see what their requirements are.

what's A/C?  air conditioning?  

I'm hoping you need more than 30 credit hours of anything to become law enforcement.....that scares me.

That's a question you can call them about, I believe you can use the credits you have but each department is different.

Was it from HCC or San Jacinto?  Then it should be OK. They care more about it being an approved college then the courses.

I am surprised they don't want 60 hours which would have included gen ed classes.

Your in HVAC so please remember that most departments do not allow part time work during your probationary period. I don;t know their beginning salary there but the first 6 months tends to be real low so save up a cushion.
