  1. Most large departments (i.e. NYPD, LAPD, Miami-Dade, Chicago, Dallas, etc.) have specific units that specialize in sexual assault cases.  However, the majority of police departments have an investigative branch that investigate all crimes, ranging from petty theft to homicide.  How hard it is to get on a department would depend on which department you are interested in.  There are many departments out there.  Pick a few and visit their websites.  You can usually find their physical and academic standards on the home page.  Good luck!

  2. Its only hard to get on if youve had issues with drugs, jobs, finances and things that they will have to further investigate, you need to be in good shape and be able to pass the written test to continue on with the hiring process. Depending on the department you want to get hired on with you have to pass the following in order to go onto the academy: Written test, physical agility test, background check, oral interview, oral psychological interview and psychological written test. Once you get on you work patrol for a couple of years and then you can request to work in specialized divisions. Goodluck
