Polish Coal upsets Tregunnon Moll in the 480m Grade A2 Heat at Sittingbourne on Jan 15
Polish Coal, the D N Griggs-trained hound, wrested an astonishing victory in the 480 metre long Grade A2 Heat, at Sittingbourne on Sunday, January 15, 2012.
Ahead of the race, the son of Tyrur Ted out of Foggy Blue Bell, was not the favourite runner by any means.
His starting price was 7 to 2, and the betting gurus were not expecting such a brilliant performance from the black dog.
Surprising the audience with his outstanding run, he covered the distance in 29.68 seconds, pocketing a cash prize of £73.
The second position went to another hound with odds of 7 to 2, Droopys Elsa.
The daughter of Westmead Hawk out of Droopys Bubble had to give an all out effort to secure runner-up's slot, as she was given a real hard time by Tregunnon Moll.
Tregunnon Moll, trained by R S Griffin, was the most favourite hound with the starting price of 9 to 4.
However, she could only manage to nab the third position, courtesy of Droopys Elsa, by a head’s distance.
The runners-up completed the distance in 29.78 seconds, whereas Tregunnon Moll, the daughter of Premier Fantasy out of Zeus Girl, crossed the finish line in 29.80 seconds.
The fourth position went to Ropewalk Lane, the least favourite hound in the race.
The son of Head Bound out of Emmerdale Mandy was holding the winning chances of 10 to 1, as he set off from the third trap. By covering the area in 29.89 seconds, G. Andreas’ trainee finished fourth in the list.
The fifth and sixth places, respectively, belonged to Inni Black and Jakes Echo.
The fifth positioned dog, the son of Premier Fantasy out of On Instinct, was sent off with odds of 3 to 1. After his discharge from the second stand, he made it to the post in 29.93 seconds, beating the one behind him by 1 ¾ lengths.
With the winning possibility of 8 to 1, Jakes Echo began the party from the fifth trap. After leaving the stall, he took 30.07 seconds to wind up the proceedings.
The previous outing was not a great one for Polish Coal, as he finished third on the table. However, the black hound has made a strong comeback, gathering a lot of admiration from the followers of greyhound racing.
