Polish International 2012: Nathan Robertson and Jenny Wallwork secure Mixed Doubles title
England’s experienced shuttlers Nathan Robertson and Jenny Wallwork showed their impressive form and secured Mixed Doubles title after beating their team-mates Ben Stawski and Lauren Smith in the final contest of 36th Yonex Polish International
2012 in Poland, on Sunday, March 25.
Robertson and Wallwork, who slipped down to number 22 in Mixed Doubles world placements, lived up to expectations in the Polish International and won the crown without facing any considerable resistance from their compatriots.
In the title match, Stawski and Smith could not put up positive show against the top seeds Robertson and Wallwork and lost the contest in just 22 minutes without taking any set.
The first game was thrilling as both couples played to their maximum potential and remained close in the opening points.
However, Robertson and Wallwork were the first to take a small lead of 11-8 until the one-minute interval.
After the break, Stawski and Smith became fast at net and managed to level the score by reaching at 12-12.
Nevertheless, Robertson and Wallwork controlled the pace of rallies by taking the bird early at net and got into commanding position.
They remained on course and managed to win the set with a convincing margin of 21-15.
In the following set, Robertson and Wallwork showed their elevated skills as they took an early lead this time by playing to their maximum potential.
On the other hand, the lower ranked English couple could not match the speed of their experienced compatriots and remained trailing far behind on the score board until the one-minute break in the second game.
After the interval, Robertson and Wallwork continued their roller-coaster performance in the final showdown.
They did not let their rivals to level the score at the concluding phase of second set as they did not make any mistake.
The top seeds progressed in the game with a wonderful speed and faced no trouble from their lower ranked opponent at any stage.
Robertson and Wallwork proved their supremacy in the arena by winning the second game with a one-sided score of 21-11.
This Mixed Doubles final match ended in 22 minutes with the victory of Robertson and Wallwork who thrashed their compatriots with a 21-15 and 21-11 score on the board.
