Polish International Junior Championships: Rodion Kargaev-Viktoria Varabyova win Mixed Doubles crown
Russia’s young shuttlers, Rodion Kargaev and Viktoria Varabyova have won the Mixed Doubles crown after defeating Bastian Kersaudy and Marie Batomene of France in the title match of Polish International Junior Championships 2012, in Poland, on Sunday, January
22.
Rodion and Viktoria, who were seeded at number five in the Mixed Doubles draw of the event, put up tremendous show and managed to win the match in a thrilling rubber set clash.
The Russians took 40 minutes to stamp their supremacy over their French rivals and won the title in an emphatic fashion.
In the opening game, Rodion and Viktoria started their campaign in a controlled way as they played with precision and remained successful in maintaining pressure on their French opponents.
However, Bastian and Marie changed their tactics and managed to end the domination of their higher ranked Russian opponents. Until the break in the first game, both sides were close on the score board.
After the break, Rodion and Viktoria increased their speed and started to earn points by playing an attacking game. They maintained pressure on their rivals and ended the opening set with a decent margin of 21-18.
In the second game, Bastian and Marie elevated their level and started to push their higher ranked Russian rivals on back foot. They played positive and dominating badminton in the whole second set and did not let their challengers to control the pace of
rallies.
Rodion and Viktoria tried their best to play fast badminton but failed to dominate the game. They also committed a few unforced errors in the ending phase of second set and lost it with a five-point difference of 16-21.
In the deciding game, both couples played at their maximum speed and pushed each other in all areas of the court. The score reached at the concluding phase of final set and no one side could build up a comfortable lead.
At this crucial stage, Rodion and Viktoria worked really well at net and played attacking badminton which helped them to win the final game with a close 21-19 score on the board. The overall result of this title match was 21-18, 16-21 and 21-19.
