Polish Open 2012: Matthias Almer slays Sergiy Garist to secure a berth in main round
Austria’s talented player Matthias Almer secured his berth in Men’s Singles main round as he played remarkable badminton in qualifying round contest and easily thrashed Ukraine’s Sergiy Garist at the Polish Open 2012 in Poland, on Thursday, August 30.
The in-form Matthias, who was the sixth seed in qualifying round of Men’s Singles category, showed a phenomenal performance on court and remained successful in beating his lower ranked challenger Sergiy in just 31 minutes.
The higher ranked Matthias was impressive and confident in his approach as he played positive and attacking badminton from the opening points and maintained his upper hand throughout the battle to end up the match in two games with an inspiring margin.
In the meanwhile, the un-seeded Sergiy found himself in all sorts of trouble as he failed to cope up with the pressure built by his challenger and he lost the match without capitalising his hard-to-learn skills.
Right from the opening points, both shuttlers played good badminton but it was Matthias who took over the charge of rallies and started to punish his rival by making him work extremely hard for every point.
The in-form Austrian shuttler played with remarkable precision and took a reasonable lead until the one-minute break.
After the mid-game interval, Matthias continued showing his aggression on court without slowing down the pace of rallies.
Matthias’s powerful shots landed perfectly in right areas and he remained successful in grabbing the first set with a huge 21-13 score on the board.
The second set was quite tough as the Ukrainian player put up staggering show in opening half while playing positive and fast badminton.
Both shuttlers were quite close on score board until the end of opening half as they played at the same speed.
After the mid-game interval, Matthias played with remarkable control in his shots and started to build lead. He controlled his nerves at the ending points of second game and took the set with a reasonable score of 21-18.
Matthias showed exit Sergiy in straight sets in just 31 minutes with a superb 21-13 and 21-18 margin on the board.
