Polish Open 2012: Maxime Michel narrowly beats Joshua Green at Men’s Singles round-of-16 stage
Maxim Michel, one of the most aggressive shuttlers from France, had to struggle hard to get rid of England’s Joshua Green in Men’s Singles round-of-16 battle at the Polish Open 2012 on Friday, August 31, in Poland.
The in-form Maxime, who is positioned at number eight in Men’s Singles main draw in the Polish Open, worked really hard and remained successful in beating his lower ranked English opponent in a narrow fashion.
The eighth seeded Maxime had to dig into his reserves to take the first game but he easily lost the following set. However, he employed all of his skills in the deciding set and remained successful in winning the battle with a tight score on the board in
58 minutes.
On the other hand, the un-seeded Joshua played with precision and impressed the crowd by winning the second game in a one-sided manner.
But the English shuttler failed to show up his aggressive run in the third set and eventually lost the match against Maxime with a reasonable difference.
The first was quite tough in opening points but it was Maxime who geared up his speed and managed a good lead of 11-7 until the end of starting half.
After the break, Joshua put up staggering show and ended the supremacy of his opponent by making the score levelled at 12-12.
Both shuttlers remained neck-to-neck until the ending points when Maxime proved his mettle by scoring the finishing points and took the set with a 21-19 score on the board.
The second game was shocking for Maxime as his rival played at his best and remained trailing far behind until the mid-game interval.
After the break, Maxime tried his best to put up strong resistance but failed to stop the progress of his opponent and lost the battle with a huge difference of 11-21.
In the deciding set, Maxime played better badminton and took a wonderful lead of 11-5 until the break.
The French shuttler became a little sluggish but found his rhythm in time and remained successful in grabbing the third set with a 21-15 score on the board.
The in-form Maxime managed to win this round-of-16 battle in 58 minutes with a decent margin of 21-19, 11-21 and 21-15.
