Polish Open 2012: Rafal Hawel punishes Dariusz Janik to enter into Men’s Singles main round
Poland’s talented shuttler Rafal Hawel defied all odds to penetrate into Men’s Singles main round after upsetting his higher ranked team-mate Dariusz Janik in qualifying round showdown at the Polish Open 2012 on Thursday, August 30, in Poland.
The passionate Rafal, who entered into Men’s Singles main draw as an un-seeded shuttler, showed his brilliance on court and he created an upset by defeating the fifth seeded Dariusz in a staggering fashion.
The lower ranked Rafal played on a different level as he played with confidence and showed exit to his country-mate by finishing off the contest in straight sets with a crushing margin in just 31 minutes.
In the meanwhile, the fourth seeded Dariusz failed to stretch his winning streak in qualifying round as he could not control the pace of rallies against Rafal and also failed to play his normal game. He went down in straight games with a humiliating difference
on the board.
The first set was a little interesting from the opening rallies when both players injected impressive power in their shots and pushed each other in all areas by taking the bird early.
However, the higher ranked Dariusz failed to take even a small lead until the break despite playing at his maximum speed.
On the contrary, it was Rafal who delivered a gutsy performance and took a small lead of 11-10 until the end of first half.
After the break, the un-seeded Rafal played with remarkable precision and stretched his lead without letting his rival to find a good rhythm.
Rafal was in staggering from in the concluding phase of opening game and he ended it up with a wonderful 21-17 score on the board.
The second game was completely one-sided when Rafal played in the similar fashion while his rival failed to cope up with the mounting pressure and remained struggling until the break.
After the interval, Rafal continued putting up stunning show and he punished Dariusz by finishing off the second set with a killing 21-8 score on the board.
The impressive Rafal sent Dariusz packing in qualifying round in just 31 minutes with a spectacular margin of 21-17 and 21-8.
