Polish Open 2012: Toby Penty punishes Anton Ivanov to get into Men’s Singles final
England’s emerging shuttler Toby Penty proved his mettle on court as he played with confidence and reached into Men’s Singles final after showing his elevated craft in semi-final contest when he punished Russia’s Anton Ivanov in Polish Open 2012 in Poland, on Saturday, September 1.
The aggressive English shuttler, who was seeded at number three in main draw in Men’s Singles category, showed a great performance and impressed the crowd by finishing off the contest in straight sets in an incredible manner.
The third seeded Toby was in remarkable form on court as he played with courage throughout the tournament and remained consistent in his convincing play throughout the match and ended up the contest in two games with an inspiring fashion.
The lower ranked Anton, on the other hand, failed to live up to expectations as he could not match the skills of Toby in the whole contest and eventually crashed out with a reasonable margin on the board.
In the first set, both players entertained the huge crowd by showing their attacking skills and they remained neck-to-neck at the opening stage.
The score progressed closely and no one could claim a strong position on score board until the break.
However, Toby played with tremendous precision and control after the break and he started to build lead by playing at his best speed.
The English player was in complete command of rallies and he dictated his rival in all areas of the court.
The in-form Toby remained successful in finishing off the opening set with a reasonable 21-18 score on the board.
In the second game, it was Toby who played flawless badminton while remaining ahead on score board until the one-minute break.
After the mid-game interval, the higher ranked English player remained on track without showing any sign of mercy for his opponent.
The incredible Toby was in commanding position in the whole battle as he remained quick in all areas and he finished it up with a stunning 21-12 score on the board.
Toby won this Men’s Singles semi-final showdown in 32 minutes with a smashing margin of 21-18 and 21-12.
