Polish Open: Kirsty Gilmour outplays Victoria Slobodjanuk to storm into Women’s Singles semi-final
Scotland’s spirited player Kirsty Gilmour proved her supremacy on court as she secured her berth in Women’s Singles semi-final after ousting Russia’s Victoria Slobodjanuk in quarter-final encounter at the Polish Open 2012 in Poland, on Saturday, September
1.
The in-form Kirsty, who is the third seed in Women’s Singles draw in Polish Open, continued her crushing run in the tournament as she easily thrashed her lower ranked Russian opponent at the top-eight stage.
The third seeded Kirsty played with fabulous speed and precision and remained successful in registering a comprehensive victory over Victoria in straight games with a huge margin by consuming just 25 minutes on court.
In the meanwhile, the un-seeded Victoria could not extend her winning run on court as she failed to put up strong resistance against her higher ranked Scottish rival and ultimately crashed out without proving her elevated skills.
The Scottish player showed her aggressive skills on court in opening set and remained in commanding position as she pushed her rival on back foot and managed a small lead of 11-9 until the end of opening half.
After the mid-game break, the Russian shuttler tried to remain close to her rival on score board while playing at her best but failed to shake the confidence of Kirsty and remained struggling.
On the other hand, Kirsty continued putting up superb show of controlled and positive badminton and she did not face any considerable problem from her opponent in ending up the first set with a crushing 21-14 score on the board.
In the second set, Kirsty was everywhere on court as she dictated Victoria in all corners by playing fast and positive badminton.
The third seeded Scottish player set up a staggering gap on score board until the mid-game break by reaching at 11-3.
After the interval, the in-form Kirsty continued her power play and maintained the gap by keeping her rival under pressure.
The impressive Scottish lady did not show any mercy to Victoria on court and wrapped up the second set with a killing margin of 21-10.
The spirited Kirsty won this Women’s Singles quarter-final showdown in just 25 minutes with a crushing 21-14 and 21-10 score on the board.
