Polish Women clinch gold medal at FIVB Youth World Championship
The 2011 FIVB Youth Beach Volleyball Championship rounded off on Sunday, June 26. The last day of the tournament featured ‘final four’ matches and created huge buzz among the beach volleyball enthusiasts.
The 15th-seeded duo of Baran and Kociolek of Poland climbed up the top position of the tournament and captured gold-medal. They were challenged by Austrian tandem, which comprised of Plesiutschnig and Schutzenhofer. After a thrilling encounter, where both
sides actively staged their skill-set, team Poland made a difference and claimed gold-ware by sending 21-19 and 21-14. The final match lasted for 34 minutes and kept the fans moving back and forth in their seats for whole time.
The 2011 FIVB Youth World Championship had an amazing run over the last week. The tournament greeted young women’s best teams from all around the world, who showcased their hot action of beach volleyball in front of international audience. The town of Umag
in Croatia felt the true vibe of beach volleyball during this exciting campaign. The sun-baked sparkling sand of Umag beach set up the best arrangement for 10th annual Youth World Championship. All the matches were played in the ATP Stadium on the gentle shores
of Adriatic Sea.
The skilful pairing of Baran and Kociolek put up a great effort throughout the tournament since its start on last Wednesday, June 22. They dropped just one match in the first round of the tournament but remained on the winning route for rest of the matches.
They contested their attack and defence capabilities with tough teams of the world but nothing could stop them from making it to the top.
In the final match, they worked out great performance against opponents. Both teams entered the court on Sunday with big plans. The first whistle of referee started things off and Poles opened the speed bombs. They used full strength of their forearms and
went up. Better attack tactics and solid defence enabled them launched their authority on the Austrian pair. However, team Austria was also playing for the gold. They resisted in full force and tried to hinder the performance Polish girls by all means. They
hit swift shots and created trouble with their trick bump passes. The opening set took many turns and finally graced Polish team with success. They won the first set with slight margin of two points at 21-19.
Baran and Kociolek were in better position to put pressure on opposite side with one set in hand. They played fast and successfully dragged Austrian team under pressure. As a result, Austrian duo lost momentum and committed silly mistakes. Polish team picked
up early lead and widened the gap with consecutive points. Eventually, Austrian side had to regret about the loss of another set. Baran and Kociolek were named for the final victory.
