I am getting married in May 2009. We want to have all polish food for our reception. Which is going to be in the late afternoon. 4 ish. I already plan on making Saurkraut/Pork and hot dogs. and Cucumbers in sour cream , But my question is, what other side dishes can i have with this? Something that is cheap to make , yet still tasty. We are on a small budget.

  1. Change the hot dogs over to kielbasa...yummy! and don't forget stuffed cabbage......double yummy...pierogies are a must! Oh, I'm getting hungry lol......

  2. If you have the time make pierogies! There's no in-season fruit (at least not in Ontario) then to fill them, but you could freeze some now for next May. Or make potato and cheese ones.

And if possible you need cabbage rolls or even lazy man's cabbage rolls. Everyone loves them!

  3. Here are a few ideas that I can think of to serve as side dishes:

    Stuffed cabbage

    Panfried Mushrooms

    Pierogi

    Halushki - Cabbage and Noodles

Here is a link that might give you some good recipe ideas:

    Good luck!

  4. Halupki (pigs in the blanket) oh yeah, pigs in the blanket ARE NOT little hotdogs wrapped in ANYTHING, it is seasoned meat and rice wrapped in cabbage leaves w/ tomato sauce

Halushki - shredded cabbage fried in butter with homemade egg noodles and bacon

The best thing is that cabbage is very inexpensive, and if you know someone with a garden, you may be able to get it for free

do a search for authentic polish food

  5. You should look into a polish restaurant and how much do they charge for catering that's what i did i am getting married July of 2009 and we are have Puerto Rican food at the reception so i went to my favorite puerto rican restaurant and ask about the catering and they gave me a really good deal

Its your wedding and you really are not going to want to cook on your day you are going to be really busy why waste your time cooking. (you are going to want to do as least possible on your day.)

  6. Pierogies for sure.  I love them!  They're little dough half-circles filled with, typically, mashed potatoes and cheese, sometimes onions.  Mrs. T has a really good version; there are also mini ones that make great appetizers.  Although it will probably be cheaper for you to make, it's something to consider if you don't have time.

  7. Pierogies
