Polish ladies defeat Switzerland 4-1 at EuroHockey Nations Championship II in Poland
Poland’s national Women’s hockey team defeated their Swiss counterparts by 4-1 in a pool C match in the EuroHockey Nations Championship II played at University of Physical Education, Ul Krolowej Jadwigi in Poznan, Poland on Saturday, August 13.
The match was quite an entertaining game where the Polish ladies dominated their opponents throughout the entire course of time by scoring two goals in each of the two halves whereas their contenders, the Swiss ladies, could tick the scoreboard only once
in second part of the game. The Polish women were clinical throughout the match where they played beautifully by controlling and moving the ball around. The Swiss women were proved no match for the Polish ladies as they remained on the defensive mode for most
of the time in the entire game.
The Polish athletes started the first half with a great action as they dominated their rivals from the starting whistle to the interval by scoring two goals in the first thirty five minutes while their opponents remained scoreless in the same time. Having
created a number of good chances but unluckily without any strike, the Polish women opened their account early in the first half when Natalia Wisniewska converted a penalty corner into their first goal in the 12th minute and thus put her team ahead
of their rivals. The Polish women doubled their lead soon after the opener when Katarzyna Krasinska scored a wonderful field goal with her individual effort in the 26th minute and made it 2-0 to Poland. The Swiss ladies also tried very hard but
they could not break the polish defence line in spite of some good efforts as the two teams went for a break at the same score.
In the second half it was also a similar story like the first one with the Polish dominance, however, a little bit of satisfaction for the Swiss as they scored a solitary goal in the second phase of the game as it was not the case in the first half. The
Polish women once again with their swift attack penetrated into the Swiss circle just seven minutes into the second half and Katarzyna Krasinska once again found the net in the 42nd minute, a superb field goal. The hosts did not stop at that instead
continued to put more and more pressure on the Swiss athletes and made their last strike in the 57th minute, thanks to Natalia Wisniewska with a wonderful goal on open play. The Swiss replied just two minutes before the final whistle when Karin
Bugmann scored their first but it was too late to make any damage to Poland.
