Political art?

im doing a project on movement and have chosen political movement- any ideas on artists, ideas or anything really would be great.

some ideas i have at the mo are: animal rights, human rights ect with the use of collage, newspapers ect

  1. I have yet to see a political cartoon that was funny, but then again I am not a Liberal.

  4. I think what you're looking for is Art with Politics, not Political Art. (terms defined by theorist Hal Foster in Political Art).

    Banksy for example, belongs to the second category, as he isn't trying to change anyone's ideas, but to expose them and make ironic and sarcastic images. In that vain, even Andy Warhol is political art.

    If you're looking for something in the human rights category (art with politics) you should look at Guerilla Girls, a group of feminist artists that started in the 80's, mainly with urban interventions, posters, etc. and they use a lot of collage and image appropiation. Hope that helps.
