The guy that said that democracy/republic better for a small state, while oligarchy/autocracy better for a large state. I think 18th cent.

But would you agree with me if I said that today, it makes more sense the other way around? My argument:

Today's free market economies are so complex that in a small society, there just is not enough diversity for everything to work, and that is why people are migrating to cities. In a very small community (<500 people), a comm govt makes more sense because people are more willing to help others that they know personally. (note, I'm not getting communism mixed up with autocracy, but in many respects they are the same.)

In a large state, if the logistical problems of giving everybody representation can be solved (today we can), then a republic makes more sense. The economy can run itself on both a national and a local level, without the govt having to meddle too much. On the other hand, with comm, it is almost impossible for the govt to...
