Politicallycorrect and the title of Damascus Stakes
Like some other stunning upsets on the opening day of the Breeders’ Cup 2012, the results of the Damascus Stakes also went against the expectations of the betting market as an underrated runner, Politicallycorrect, emphatically accomplished the ace title
at Santa Anita racecourse.
The six-runner contest was full of thrill and sensation as there happened a close fight. Till the last moment of the race, all the spectators and punters were unclear of the results. It was a matter of sheer surprise for them to watch an underdog whipping
in the face of some big adversaries.
The race commenced at 6:10 (GMT). Over the 7-furlong fast course, half a dozen contestants competed for
£38,709.68.
The Bob Baffert trained debutant, Mile High Magic, was the 19-10 favourite candidate. After the break call, at least five horses kept running parallel for some seconds.
Then, Politicallycorrect and Private Zone managed to take command. Thus, there began a rip-roaring clash between the two. It was quite amazing for the spectators to watch the two slack runners competing.
But, that show did not went long as Politicallycorrect soon managed to surpass his rival. After that, the bay and brown gelding beautifully kept his pace intact till finishing by the margin of 1 ¼ lengths.
Private Zone grabbed the runner-up spot while Brother Francis stood third on the podium. Sir Bond sealed 4th position while Mile High Magic and Our Lucky Son finished 5th and 6th respectively.
The results of the race were pretty disappointing for the punters who had staked their money on Mile High Magic. On the other hand, the victor’s owner, Kenneth L & Sarah K Ramsey, and trainer, Wesley A. Ward, were quite pleased to have that great honour.
It was Politicallycorrect’s second straight success. Prior to that, he had broken his maiden with the title of the Oklahoma Derby (Dirt) that went down at Remington park on September 30. He outplayed the hot-favourite runner, Willy Beamin, by a narrow margin
to thrive.
In his next outing, the son of Kitten’s Joy out of Exceedexpectations will try his level best to complete hat-trick. Good luck to him.
