Question:

Politics & Parenthood? Sarah Palin's role?

I support working moms and the choice to advance one's career. But I'd love to know your personal opinion about Sarah Palin's role as a politician & a mom. I know this is a double standard because male politicians don't get attacked and scrutinized by the media as much as a female politician with small children. Does Palin value her career advancement than raising her family? Let's be nice while answering!

FYI: I am a teacher w/13 years in the classroom; now teaching part-time with a 3 1/2 year old son.

  1. People have to work. People have to continue their careers. Her story is no different than Obama. He has two young children.

I praise her for her accomplishments and wish her the best.

    edit:

Wow, these answers amaze me. Why isn't Obama home being a father to his children? See how silly that sounds!

  2. To be honest, I was hoping that her husband was a "stay-at-home" dad so that her kids were being raised by one of the parents. I know that's not a popular stance in this day and age, but I am old fashioned in this regard. I'm not saying she's not a good mom, as she seems like the kind of person who can do it all. Nonetheless, chances are she's not going to spending that much time with her kids over the next few months, and certainly over the next 4 years if McCain wins. As a side note, I like her!

  3. As my mother and grandmother have always said, "What's good for the goose is good for the gander." We could ask the same question of workaholic fathers who are seemingly never home. She is their mother, regardless. Advancing her career will only help raise her family and bring more opportunity.

  4. My opinion does not matter. The important opinions concerns Sarah, her husband, and their children. As we all can see by now, they all approved her role going for V.P.

This is how Sarah Palin rates her values in order.

    1. God

    2. Family

I see no problems with Sarah being in two roles at the same time.

She's got her priorities in the right place.

  5. The American middle class... carried this nation for years. She is the best of us. John McCain stood at attention and saluted us all.

  6. to the best of my knowledge she has a 4 month old baby with

Down es syndrome. to me knowing that, it appears her career

advancement seems to be number one and her family second.

this is my opinion only and an answer to your question.

  7. Well she has 5 kids and one with Down syndrome. I would like to know where she would find the time as VP to care for and raise her children. Sure her husband can do it and she can definately afford to have them watched and taken care of but is that really the best choice? It's hard to say.

  8. With the selection to choose Sarah Palin as his vice president, I don't blame her, I question McCain's judgment.  The vice president is a heartbeat from the presidency and Alaska Barbie is greener than the state she represents.  You don't have to be that experienced to run a state that has a population of 10K back woodsmen.  Aside from being a Miss Alaska contestant, her resume is as slim as a new college graduate.  It was a ploy to try to win the Hillary supporters.  Well, I'm a Hillary supporter and I have to tell you she is nowhere near as qualified as Hillary.  I was sitting on the fence but now I'm firmly in Obama's corner.  McCain scares me, I think he's senile.
