How to call properly a horse which is white, but has grey dots all over it? I found a "dappled horse", but I understood that it was about a grey horse with dots. What about white?

  1. I think you mean a "leopard appaloosa"

    Check this out

  2. The coloring which you refer to, occurs on older, (although, as early as 5 or 6yr.old, and up) gray horses, as the dappling fades, and the body color goes more white.

When born, gray horses are usually a solid, dark color, bay or chestnut, but shed out the foal coat, to a rich dark gray, eventually go dapple gray, and slowly fading to white, with age. The little dots all over, are usually the original birth color, and this final coloration is called "flea bit gray".

A true white horse, will have pink skin, under the hair coat, and a gray horse, no matter how white looking it is, has black skin under the hair coat.

Edit: johnr, the grullo color comes from a buckskin coloration, and is a solid color, with no white hairs mixed in, resembling a rich, dark mouse gray.

  3. it could be an appolusa sorry i didnt spell that right but yeah that kind lol its a quarter horse but an appolusa

OR IT COULD BE A PAINT OR PINTO LOL

  4. the coat would be called dapple.many breeds have this coat.percherons,appaloosa.and even some paints..but in the paints it is called grullo.

  5. I believe you're thinking of the breed, Pinto.

    they're beautiful horses.

  6. Appaloosa horses are spotted.  This link will show you a picture of Appaloosa's so you can check to see if this is the right breed of horse you are thinking of:

"Dapple grey" is just the desciption of a horse's colouring and is not a breed.  Most horses that are grey gradually turn totally white as they get older.

  7. You call it by it's name of course!

    lol
