Question:

Poll: Are you offended by swears and other "younger" jargon?

It seems to me people today are highly offended by swears. Now to me its just part of my vocab and I must swear 100x a day. Now that doesn't mean I go swear at everybody as I do have manners but I still swear.

I notice some people say that some comedy is to vulgar and that would be better if it was "cleaned up". But to me it's just comedy, it was ment to entertain, honestly I don't see how something like stand-up could be funny unless it was vulgar. (unless it on nickelodeon)

Also I understand how some people can be offended by some slang used today. Like "mad props" or "whats up guy" because some may see it as rubbish and label kids that say it by telling them they are stupid. My question is why? Why does it bother you so much?

Just because it's a language you really don't understand or like doesn't mean whoever says it is "less" than you or anyone else.

I think like with any change people are scared of it.

Just looking for some opinions here.

  1. As an adult, I'm not particularly fond nor offended by swearing. To me, it shows a lack of vocabulary, a lack of intelligence, or evidence of bad upbringing.

Comics can indeed be funny while swearing, but vulgarity shouldn't be necessary for something to be funny. Look at Bill Cosby. He was one of the most successful stand-up comics ever, and he did not swear. Of course, he held a Ph.D... I'm sure that helped. : )

Do you find you're at a loss for words often if you don't swear?  You might want to look around for a thesaurus.

  2. I try not to swear,  but there are lots of things I try not to do that I still end up doing.

  3. I am not offended by it, but you need to understand that it isn't considered "younger" jargon.  Swearing has been around forever, and most people do it, at some point in their lives.  Many young people over-do as well as many uneducated people.  You can not choose, which you one others will see you as.  Eventually, you will no longer be young.

  4. No I'm not offended by it, I swear so much throughout the day.

But I do know that there is a time and place for everything, thus, I wouldn't  go cuss in church or in front of a bunch of children

  5. I'm not offended at all by it, I couldn't care less about what anybody else thinks of me. I do cuss too, but I won't cuss at another person unless I'm REALLY mad and they were the cause of it. We have the right to say and do as we please.

  6. Well, your first problem is in thinking that you have your own language and all the "old" people can't understand you. People understand, it just often makes no sense to use some of the phrases and words. As for cursing, not a big deal, but when a comedy routine is based mainly on the cursing or being vulgar, it begins to lose it's appeal. The main thing here is that you do what's right for you...if it's working for you, I assure you it's fine. Your biggest mistake is in thinking that adults really care about it.

  7. thats tooooooooo long to read but yh i swear ALOT and so what :D

  8. No, but it does make you sound like a doosh. You can do that with your friends.
